Experts are wrongly valued more than generalists. A generalist is perceived as shallow, too superficial (“knowledge light”) to have anything useful to offer. This is the “Expert Fallacy.”
Rather, it is the person with “range,” the “Sentinel,” that has the upper-hand.
The “Sentinel” has the high-ground advantage, able to see the wider landscape, the threat of smoke rising above the tree line, the avalanche hazards, the roads in and out. The Sentinel notices what others overlook.
